About Us
Open Door Psychology is the joint private practice of Dr Olivia Mohtady and Dr Jake Maxwell Watts. We are both counselling psychologists based out of the pretty market town of Altrincham, in Greater Manchester.
We are humanistic practitioners - we believe in responsible, evidence-based practice working towards the outcomes that matter to people. We create a warm and safe therapeutic space for people who are struggling with their emotional and psychological health.
-
We believe in a collaborative, humanistic approach to therapy. We will bring theory and experience to the table, but you know yourself best and are free to set the agenda collaboratively. We focus on what’s most helpful to you at this particular moment in time, and prefer to develop an individualised understanding of distress, instead of labelling it or making assumptions about what will help. Integrity and transparency are particularly important to us, and we aim to offer a safe non-judgemental space to everyone, regardless of background.
-
We work with people experiencing a wide variety of difficulties including anxiety, depression/low mood, trauma/PTSD, relationship problems, self-criticism, OCD, bipolar, psychosis, disordered eating, panic, stress, and more. We welcome people of all backgrounds.
-
We offer face-to-face sessions at our practice studios at 28 High Street, Altrincham, WA14 1QP.
-
We hold doctoral qualifications as Counselling Psychologists, registered with both the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). We have experience working in the NHS, charity sector, universities, and in occupational health settings.
-
Our standard session fee is £95. We believe costs shouldn’t be a barrier to getting support, so we offer a limited number of reduced-fee places for people on lower incomes. Please do ask if this applies to you.
-
As Counselling Psychologists, we are able to blend a wide variety of therapeutic approaches to meet the needs of each person. Our work is grounded in humanistic ways of working, particularly Person Centred Therapy (PCT). Where appropriate, we may draw on other types of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and related schools such as Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We will soon offer Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma - please reach out directly by email if this is of interest.
